Lecrae flew in to New York City this week for an interview with mainstream hip-hop radio outlet Hot 97. The rapper boldly shared about his Christian faith and opened up about former drug use and being molested.

DJs Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez interviewed the Reach Record emcee. The success of his album Anomaly is what opened up the opportunity for the Texas native. Anomaly stayed at the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts for three weeks and he is now on a sold out tour with his label mate Andy Mineo.

Lecrae opened and revealed that he is treated unfairly for rapping about things that matter. "I'm more censored than the most drugged out violent rapper," he said, "They censor me more then anybody. I'm marginalized, put in a box. I'm sitting here trying to put substance into music and people are like 'nah nah nah.'"

In the interview Lecrae admitted that he dabbled in snorting coke at one point in his life. He also outlined how he came to Christ.

"I'm not into religion I don't like following arbitrary rules for no reason. So I really couldn't rock with that, but the idea of a relationship with God intrigued me," he stated.

The rapper took the opportunity to state what his faith was, "Christianity was the only faith that said no it's not about you being perfect it's about you trusting in someone who already is perfect."

Lecrae furthermore talked about his breaking point and what lead him to find his faith in Jesus. He explained that it was at a time where he lost his job, his girlfriend, flipped over his car in an accident, and was thinking of killing a man.

"I popped some pills went to sleep and hoped that I didn't wake up, but I I woke up," he said, confessing that he attempted suicide.

He went on to open up about being molested by his female babysitter and said that turned him into a kid who was fondling girls in elementary school because of the sexual experiences he was opened up to.

"I was confused," he noted.

Finally he told the DJS that he is perceived as being "Too Christian for the world" and "too worldly for the church," but he believes real people relate to his music.
