Lecrae and NF Continue to Bring Christian Hip-Hop to the Forefront as They Scratch Billboard Top 25 Chart
It has been a big week for Christian hip-hop as both Lecrae and NF of charting on the Billboard charts at the same time.
According to Jam the Hype, the two emcees are on the top 25 Billboard Christian Hot AC Radio chart for Lecrae's "Give In" featuring Crystal Nicole and NF's "I'll Keep In" featuring Jeremiah Carlson. They sit at No. 17 and No. 24 respectively.
Lecrae has previously charted before, and his song "Nuthin" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Rock National Airplay chart of all things. For NF, this is his first time on the chart.
When NF released his highly anticipated album Mansion, the album soared to the No. 9 spot on Billboard's Rap Album Charts and No. 6 Hip-Hop/Rap iTunes chart as well as No. 1 on the iTunes Christian chart.

Lecrae found himself all over the Billboard charts last year, and was recognized for it with two Billboard Award nominations for Top Christian Artist and Top Christian Album (Anomaly).
Interestingly enough the two are paired together although they have not worked together. NF spoke to BREATHEcast in an interview about how much the Reach Records executive is important to Christian music.
He feels hip-hop is also getting to the point where labels will not matter anymore, and Christian rap will be thrown in the pool of rap. He likes artists such as Lecrae for making the jump, and putting out quality hip-hop with a message that is still legitimate.
"I remember when Lecrae was getting crap because they were saying we don't like to be defined as Christian rappers. They weren't saying they were ashamed, obviously Lecrae is unashamed," he stated, "I think it's just the whole idea, when you go to your friend and say 'Hey check out this Christian rapper.' They automatically have a negative outlook on it. You know how people are, if you say that to them rather than show it to them. The cool thing in my mind is I think you can play a Lecrae record next to a lot of artists. He stands out and his music's great and it's not so different where people are like 'Woah, that's a Christian rapper.'
This is something that is even more true now then when NF originally said it, as Lecrae took the world by storm, selling tons of copies of his album and making the rounds on national television.
He continued, "It's legit, it's good. I don't know, it's definitely come a long way. I've been listening to hip-hop for so long back when there was Gospel Gansterz, Grits, T-Bone, and all those people."
Christian hip-hop appears to finally be getting the recognition it deserves not just in mainstream music, but also within the Christian community as well, as it is making leaps out of CCM, worship, and rock.
