Leah Remini News: Actress Supports New HBO Scientology Documentary, Applauds 'Going Clear' Filmmakers via Twitter
Recently the HBO documentary about Scientology, entitled 'Going Clear', hit the air waves, and brought forward a whole bunch of opinions from various celebrities. In that regard, former Scientology church member and Hollywood actress Leah Remini expressed her support for the documentary's filmmakers.
Remini left the church in 2013 and which gained some public controversy afterwards. Now, Remini speaks up again showing her support for the recent critically acclaimed documentary shown on HBO titled 'Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief' directed by Alex Gibney.
"Thank you to the brave who did something about it. And to those who didn't have a voice, you do now. #GoingClear," Remini wrote on her twitter supporting Gibney at his latest craft.
The documentary film was said to be based on Lawrence Wright's Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison Belief released in 2013. The film is about the religion itself including interviews from former members of the church.
The church just recently spoke against the documentary even creating a social media account to have an avenue in speaking out their oppositions about the documentary. "The accusations made in the film are entirely false and alleged without ever asking the Church," Scientology officials reportedly said in a statement, "The Church is committed to free speech. However, free speech is not a free pass to broadcast or publish false information."
Meanwhile, the former King of Queens star who bravely posted her support for the film also previously spoke about her leaving the religion. "I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support," she said in a statement to People magazine.
Remini also previously opened up to Buzzfeed a few months after leaving the church stating her reason was because of her family. "In my house, it's family first-but I was spending most of my time at the church," she said adding, "So, I was saying 'family first,' but I wasn't showing that. I didn't like the message that sent my daughter."
