NBA 2015 Trade News, Rumors: Lawson Traded to Rockets
Following Ty Lawson's second DUI arrest in six months, the Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement to trade the troubled guard to the Houston Rockets, Yahoo Sports reports.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Houston will send Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson and a protected 2016 first-round pick to Denver, while the Nuggets will package a 2017 second-round pick to the Rockets to go along with Lawson.
Shortly after his arrest on DUI charges in Los Angeles, the 27-year-old Lawson entered treatment for alcohol abuse at Cliffside Malibu. As reported by ESPN, a judge ruled that the troubled guard wouldn't be facing DUI charges in California and Colorado until Lawson completes a 30-day residential treatment program.
Lawson was the 18th overall pick in the 2009 draft. He has spent all of his six seasons in the NBA in Denver and averaged 15.2 points and 9.6 assists last season.
For the Nuggets, the move solidifies their intentions of handing the team over to seventh overall pick Emmanuel Mudiay, who has been stellar in his summer league stint. The Rockets, for their part, get a dynamic point guard to pair alongside James Harden in the backcourt.
In other NBA news, the Phoenix Suns recently announced the signings of four players. Brandon Knight, who was a restricted free agent, was signed for five years and $70 million, which as noted by Yahoo Sports, is the same deal that was given to Eric Bledsoe last year.
The Suns also signed Mirza Teletovic, Sonny Weems and point guard Ronnie Price.
In Toronto, the Raptors shored up their frontline by signing Bismack Biyombo, who played last year for the Charlotte Hornets.
The 6-foot-9 Congolese averaged 4.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 64 games for the Hornets last season.
Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri called Biyombo an "exceptional rim protector," saying "his physicality will be a great asset to us defensively."
