'Law & Order SVU' Season 18 Episode 7 News, Spoilers: Team Deal With Case Involving Assaulted Transgender Victim

Benson and his team will deal with a highly sensitive issue when "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18 returns for its seventh episode.

In episode 7 titled "Bad Rap," the team will deal with a case involving a transgender student who has allegedly been assaulted by a record label chief executive named Vincent Love and his apprentice Hype.

In the promo video for the episode, Benson seemingly cannot wrap her head around how the perpetrators of the crime showed no mercy in beating up the transgender victim.

"This is a hate crime," Benson says in the clip after realizing what happened and learning the identity of the victim.

"It's 2016 for god's sake," she adds, showing her disdain for the incident.

The victim, to be played by transgender model Sabel Gonzales, sustained injuries so serious that she had to be given urgent medical attention. The promo shows that she was hospitalized soon after the attack.

The episode is just one of the many episodes of "Law and Order: SVU" which features stories that are ripped straight from the headlines. The episode will put a spotlight on the issue of transphobic violence, which is one of the most sensitive issues nowadays.

Meanwhile, a Donald Trump-inspired episode titled "Unstoppable" is set to air after the U.S. presidential elections. The episode was supposed to air much earlier, but the NBC network had to postpone it several times. This episode is expected to tackle another controversial issue, where a politician is accused of sexual assault and making graphic comments about women.
