'Law & Order: SVU' Season 18 Cast News: US Vice President Biden Confirmed As Guest On Upcoming Season
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will make a special appearance in the new season of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU)," as he promotes an advocacy with Mariska Hargitay's Lt. Olivia Benson.
A month before its premiere, the NBC network has already released some teasers and details about the new installment of the series, including its cast and storyline. In fact, just recently, it was revealed that VP Biden would in fact be one of the special guests on season 18.
In one promo photo for the new season, VP Biden is shown standing at a podium with Olivia Benson beside him. By the looks of it, he is talking to the SVU team about the national backlog of untested rape kits.
"The Vice President will appear as himself in a press conference scene where he commends the SVU, led by Lt. Olivia Benson, for their work in addressing the national rape kit backlog, specifically in the city of Detroit," reads NBC's press release on the vice president's upcoming cameo.
In real life, actress Mariska Hargitay is known for her active involvement in the campaign on violence against women. Recently, she delivered a speech at the White House during the United State of Women Summit about the importance of having tested rape kits. She shares the same advocacy as VP Biden, who was recently honored by the Joyful Heart Foundation for his contribution in ending domestic violence and sexual assault.
"Law & Order: SVU" season 18 premieres on Sept. 21, 9:00 p.m. on NBC.
