Kong: Skull Island Release Date, Cast News: Michael Keaton To Star in 2017 Film

It would seem the cast of the new and upcoming 'King Kong' adaptation, 'Kong: Skull Island', has just added another stellar actor to their already legendary cast. New reports have confirmed that Michael Keaton will be taking on a role in the film.

On that note, it seems that the actor's recent award-winning performance in the movie 'Birdman' has only catapulted his rise back into acting in huge blockbuster films.

Keaton will be accompanied to co-star alongside Tom Hiddleston, and J.K. Simmons.

It has already been reported by Variety that Keaton has officially closed a deal and will be making a planned trip off to a mysterious island just off the coast of Sumatra.

"Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is directing the film for a March 10, 2017, release. Skull Island was a surprise announcement at last summer's Comic-Con; the film will reportedly explore the dangerous jungle home of the giant ape rather than focus on the traditional monkey-moving-to-the-big-city story that has been done to death. (Twas remakes killed the beast.)," writes IGN.

There is no word on what role Keaton will be playing in the King Kong spin-off, but GeekTyrant offers us a short synopsis on the film's premise:

"In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with KONG: SKULL ISLAND, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series). Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island."

"Legendary's story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, upcoming Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures."

Currently, the movie is projected to be released on March 10th, 2017.
