'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Date: RPG Coming This Winter, Preceded By ‘2.8 Final Chapter Prologue’

It looks like fans have to wait further before Square Enix reveals more details on its "Kingdom Hearts 3."

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is assumed to come out this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2016; however, Square Enix remained tight-lipped with regard the details. Instead, the company revealed that the "Kingdom Hearts" franchise is set to release "Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue," as per Ecumenical News.

"Kingdom Hearts" co-director Tai Yasue confirmed that the aforementioned title is set to play a pivotal role to the gameplay of "Kingdom Hearts 3." In an interview with IGN, Yasue said that he thought for "Kingdom Hearts 3" that they wanted the player to leap into an action-packed game right away. This means that the "2.8" is set to lay down the foundation to a more experiential gaming when the third installment hits the market and the gaming consoles.

The game co-director also suggested that "Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue" is intended to assist the transition from the game's second installment to the forthcoming third installment. It is further revealed that the upcoming "2.8" title is set to feature three disparate regions of the universe that compose the "Kingdom Hearts" realm.

According to Yasue, as cited by IGN, "Final Chapter Prologue" aims to prepare games for "Kingdom Hearts 3" by immersing them to the universe and provide an end to open story arcs. He mentioned that Back Cover was a case in point, as it explored the time prior to the Keyblade War, which had become a vital foundation for the game story.

Overall, "Kingdom Hearts 3" is assumed to be released in the winter.
