'Kingdom Hearts 3' News: Co-Director Tai Yasue Talks Upcoming Franchise Installment

After the teaser released almost two years ago for the anticipated "Kingdom Hearts 3" title, players have been eagerly expecting something more detailed.

With all the wait, players have yet to receive a release date, a proper trailer, or any relevant game details. However, in a recent 4Gamer interview with the co-director for the video game series, Tai Yasue dished out some details on the third installment:

"Now that we've worked out Unreal Engine 4 as our development environment, as well as the general structure of the team and fresh new look for the game and its accompanying shader, development of Kingdom Hearts III is moving forward as we now focus on making things like new Attractions and Keyblade transformations. We're hoping to be able to show our fans the fruits of these labors step by step during 2015, so stay on the lookout for more information!"

In a more recent interview with Kotaku, Yasue speaks on how the remake games were "good training" for the next game.

The developers released remixes or remasters of their original games such as "Kingdom Hearts 1.5/2.5" wherein they added new features along with polishing up the game.

"We have been working on 3 and 2.5 at the same time," Yasue says, "so a lot of people are crossing over and doing both. There are also a lot of new people working on both. In a way, we've learned what was good about our previous Kingdom Hearts [games] by making 2.5."

"For 3, we want to evolve it in a new direction, but at the same time we don't want to change what is fundamental about Kingdom Hearts. We're hiring new people continuously, so they are learning about Kingdom Hearts through making 2.5. It's a good learning experience."

Yasue goes into speaking on keeping the integrity of the Disney properties that they share within the game. He says this may make a Marvel or Star Wars crossover in the game possible.

Although nothing has been confirmed, "Kingdom Hearts 3" is presumed to be released by next year.
