‘Kingdom Hearts 2.8’ Release Date, Game News: Square Enix Director Explains Strange Title

Fans of the legendary "Kingdom Hearts' series were excited to learn about an upcoming title "Kingdom Hearts 2.8', but some were left perplexed as to why Square Enix would choose to number it 2.8. On that note, Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura went into a little detail about why they made that decision.

As it stands, the full title of the upcoming game is "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue', which is rather hefty and a touch different than previous installments; however there is some logical thought behind choosing that name.

In a recent interview with the Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, the director said that since "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix' are set before Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, they're technically 2.6 in the entire KH series.

The report, translated by NovaCrystallis read, "Since Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover/Kingdom Hearts Unchained is supposed to be the first game in the mainline series, that is being represented as '0' in the collection," adding, "And lastly, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is '0.1' and that then leads into Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep."

There for 2.8 comes from 2.6 plus 0 plus 0.2. While this still remains a tad bit confusing, it actually makes sense. According to information given at the recent Sony pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes HD remakes of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, as well as Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2.

Last but not least, in regards to the release date, which many franchise fans are waiting to find out, it has recently been narrowed down slightly. As it stands, "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue' arrives on the PlayStation 4 in 2016.
