Kim Kardashian a God? Brooklyn Art Exhibition Causes Outrage After Pictures of Reality Star as Jesus, Virgin Mary and Satanic Priestess are Hung (PHOTOS)

Kim Kardashian was portrayed as a deity in a Brooklyn art gallery's exhibit last week. The display depicted the reality star as Jesus and the Virgin Mary which has left local religious leaders offended and upset.

"The Passion of Kim Kardashian," opened in Bushwick last week and according to Daily News, Father Michael Perry of Our Lady of Refuge Church in Flatbush, called the show "dumb and stupid."

"Everyone knows who Kim Kardashian is and I don't care who she is. She has no impact on my life at all," Perry said.

Artist Hannah Kunkle, created the photo shopped artwork told the publication she is "strangely fascinated" with Kardashian.

"I think she is almost a patron saint of pop culture," she said. "She's everywhere."

Kunkle told VICE earlier this year that, "Kim Kardashian is God. She's crazy bodacious and has the nose job of an angel. I don't know if she's omniscient, but no one can deny she's not omnipresent."

Pastor Reggie Stutzman of Real Life Church in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx chimed in on the art, he told Daily News that he was particularly offended after seeing one of the portraits, of the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star, wearing a crown of thorns with a cross behind her.

"Leave Kim and Jesus separate," Stutzman said. "To cross so many lines and actually imagine her with a cross, which is the most important thing Jesus did, is inappropriate. There are other ways to depict that imagery without combining those images."

"It's deplorable," the pastor continued. "It's sacrilegious, irrelevant, and disrespectful. . . It's idol worship."

The one-night show of the Kardashian images was held at Palisades 906, and also included images of Kardashian as a satanic priestess, Joan of Arc, a trio of nuns, and a Hindu goddess. In the Hindu portrait, Kardashian is wearing a necklace in which the beads are of the head of her husband, Kanye West. West is known for likening himself unto Jesus by calling himself "Yeezus."

Dr. Uma Mysorekar, of the Hindu Temple Society of North America in Flushing joined the Christian ministers in criticizing Kunkle's work. "I am certainly not happy about this, any religious symbol should not be used or abused."

The show reportedly also featured organ music and incense, with prayer candles surrounding the images.

The 23 year-old artist said she found it amusing that the religious leaders were outraged, she said it was "pretty hilarious."

"I'm sorry if that offends them, but that's really not my purpose," she said. "It's art. It's supposed to be wild and, not offensive, but prying."

Kunkle confessed she is not religious herself, but said; "Religious idols are so beautiful to me, so I wanted to make my own that apply to me. Those images are so powerful - it gives power to the idea of worshiping her."

"I've never got haters before," the Pratt Institute graduate said. "I love it."
