Kevin Garnett 2015 News: NBA Star Player Spices Things Up for New Team Minnesota Timberwolves
The NBA trade deadline made something evident"”Kevin Garnett is done chasing titles, as he decided to come "home" to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the franchise that drafted him 20 years ago.
However, he has been quick to make an impact"”even for a team that finds itself in the bottom of the Western Conference.
"He already yelled at Pek (starting center Nikola Pekovic) twice to get back on defense. I don't think Pek has been yelled at his entire career," Ricky Rubio was quoted saying about Garnett's first practice with the Wolves, adding he hopes the 38-year-old teaches the 7-foot Montenegrin "the bad side" because "he's too nice."
Before Garnett even hit town, Wolves president and coach Flip Saunders stirred anecdotes about his approach to the game.
As noted by the Minnesota Pioneer Press' Tom Powers, "As one of our veteran guys told our young guys yesterday, "Hey listen, when KG walks in the locker room, your phones better be tucked away, because if they're not, they're going to get thrown in the toilet on game night,'" said Saunders.
Garnett went on to debunk the story after meeting with the media for the first time, saying that while he won't "take any mess," he doesn't plan on throwing anyone's cell phone in the toilet.
It has been rumored that Garnett will sign a two-year extension with the Wolves in the offseason, but deflected all questions about his future during his meeting with the press.
Saunders, who is rumored to have an interest in purchasing the Wolves along with Garnett, also said that he wasn't "going to touch" any on-record talks about future ownership.
Last November, Garnett was quoted saying, "I want to buy the Timberwolves. Put a group together and perhaps some day try to buy the team. That's what I want."
Garnett has made $327 million in salaries since being drafted in 1995, making him the highest-earning player in NBA history.
Last January, Forbes valued the Wolves franchise at $625 million.
