Kendrick Lamar New Album News: Rapper's 'To Pimp A Butterfly' Leaked Days Before Official Release
Kendrick Lamar's recently announced album had an early arrival late Sunday night; the rap artist's sophomore effort, 'To Pimp A Butterfly' wasn't meant to be released until March 23rd.
TDE CEO Andrew Tiffith wasn't pleased with the album's leak, and to diffuse any rumors on the label leaking the project themselves he tweeted this shortly after:
"I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR F******* UP OUR RELEASE... SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!! #TOP"
'To Pimp A Butterfly' is now available for download on both iTunes and Spotify.
The album comes with 16 tracks including his singles, "i," "The Blacker the Berry," and "King Kunta."
The "unexpected" release of highly anticipated records have become quite the trend in recent years. Despite the early release being expressed as a miscommunication, Kendrick doesn't seem to be moved.
"Though Lamar's may have been an unintentional surprise, it's unlikely to significantly hurt his album sales. Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late clocked the third-biggest opening week sales of his career, selling 495,000 copies in its first tracking week, and broke the record for debut week album streams in the U.S. on Spotify," writes Forbes.
Early critical analysis of the album has been very positive, and with the artist's debut album winning a Grammy for Best Rap Album, he's already cemented his spot for one of the best in the genre.
