Katherine Chappell Death News: 'Game of Thrones' Film Editor Dies in Lion Attack
Katherine Chappell, one of the film editors for Game of Thrones, was visiting South Africa to raise money for a charitable organization.
However, things went horribly wrong for the 29 year old while she was taking a ride through a safari park.
As she was attempting to take photographs, a lion jumped through the window of her vehicle and killed her.
The tour guide, Pierre Potgieter, has come forward to comment on the specifics of the incident.
Original reports stated that Potgieter and Chappell were riding through the safari with the windows down, but Potgieter insists that this is not the case.
He states that Chappell rolled her window down at the last minute in order to take a photograph, and this is when the lion attacked.
"The tourist had a camera, and of her own accord, rolled down the passenger window to take photographs. A lion then attacked the tourist through the open window," said Potgieter's wife, in a statement to the Daily Mail.
"Mr. Potgieter tried to fend the lioness off and in the process sustained injuries to the arm."
When the lion finally let up on its attack, Potgieter attempted to put a stop to Chappell's bleeding, which was profuse, but it was too late, and she passed away while being treated by paramedics.
Potgieter reportedly suffered a heart attack after the ordeal.
Chappell worked as a special effects editor for the company Scanline, where she worked on Game of Thrones, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Divergent.
She even won an Emmy award in 2014 for her work on GoT episode, "The Children."
