Kate Upton's advert for the video game 'Game of War: Fire Age' is gaining criticism as actual gamers doubt the model's genuine interest in video games.

Upton tweeted about her appearance in the game, saying, "So excited! I've waited so long to be in a game! Check me out!"

In the video, the Sports Illustrated model was seen in a white gown with matching gold accessories, channeling the goddess Athena as she walked through a battlefield where soldiers are battling against a fire-breathing dragon.

Despite the intention behind the trailer, Upton's appearance received mixed reactions.

Nick Tylwalk wrote about Upton's appearance in a post on App Trigger which was entitled "Does Anyone Think Kate Upton Has Actually Played Game Of War: Fire Age?"

"We know that athletes like Clash of Clans, and I buy it when celebs pop up endorsing World of Warcraft on TV, but something makes me think that Upton has never tried the game she's asking us to 'come and play with me'," he wrote, "Ms. Upton, if you're reading and want to reach out and tell me I'm wrong, I'd be okay with that."

However, Kristie Rohwedder from Bustle, also wrote about Upton, but in more positive note.

"Kate Upton stomps through Ye Olde Battlefielde," she wrote, "She is Athena: Goddess of War, Justice, Knowledge, Wisdom, Having a Rockin' Bod, Having a Rockin' Face, Strutting Through Fire Like It's No Big Deal, Striking A Pose Before A Dragon Like The Dragon is No Big Deal, and Slapping the Camera in the Face with a Fierce Gaze. KILLIN' IT, K-UP!"

All in All, Upton herself commented on the controversy through an email sent to Ad Week.

"It is fantastic to be instrumental in the start of a new era in gaming and communications," she wrote, "I love playing the part of Athena-she's such a bad-a** character, commanding armies, slaying hydra, charging into battle-the work shows how much fun it is, and I am proud to be part of it."

Kate Upton was recently seen in Busan, South Korea on Saturday, where she took part as Athena during a promotional event for the game. She also reportedly took part in G-Star 2014 in Busan.
