Kanye West vs. Censorship News, Rumors: Artist 'Grossly Over-Censored' at Billboard Music Awards?
Kanye West is upset over how grossly over-censored his performance was during the Billboard Music Awards, which was broadcasted by ABC.
West released a statement apologizing to the TV viewers who saw his performance, according to Fox News. He has complained that some of his lyrics were muted for about 30 seconds, which misrepresented his voice and performance. In his statement he apologized to the audience that they were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.
The statement reads, "Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards. Non-profane lyrics such as "with my leather black jeans on" were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented."
It further says, "It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against. Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned."
The rapper performed to the songs of "All Day' and "Black Skinhead.'
However, ABC and show producer Dick Clark Productions both have no comment on West's remarks yet.
Reportedly, the audience at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena booed as West performed his songs.
