Kanye West News: Rapper Apologizes for Censorship During Billboard Awards Performance
Spectators weren't very happy with Kanye West's performance at the Billboard Music Awards for a multitude of reasons, however the artist has come forward to apologize for his censorship in a recent statement.
West blames his lackluster performance on the fact that the network saw fit to "over-censor" him during his performance. He claims that this misrepresented his voice and lyrics, as some of the mutes would last 30 seconds.
The statement was released by West's reps. It read:
"Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards. Non-profane lyrics such as 'with my leather black jeans on' were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented. It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against. Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned."
On that note, the network has declined to respond.
The artist performed the songs 'All Day,' and 'Black Skinhead.' According to fans, the performance also suffered from the visual end, as it was hard to see West through the flamethrowers and smoke.
It was stated that West was booed by the live audience in the Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.
"Kanye West is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming album. Swish, previously titled So Help Me God, has no scheduled release date, but it is reportedly going to feature 'All Day,' 'Only One' and 'Wolves,'" writes MTV.
