Kanye West New Song News: 'Only One' Ballad Tribute to his Late Mother

Just before the New Year, Kanye dropped a stunning new track in memory of his late mother, Donda, who died in 2007. The collaboration between Kanye West and singer Paul McCartney was made available on Kanye West's official website and the iTunes store on January 1st, 2015.

The song was written from the perspective of a mother singing to her child. "My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter," West revealed in a statement.

From the lyrics, Kanye West's mother would surely be proud of her son for making this song. "Remember how I'd say one day you'll be the man you always knew you would be..." Kanye sang. The rapper noted that the song was titled "Only One" because that is what Donda named him. "Kanye" means "Only One."

The track was brought into the singer's album, 808s and Heartbreak as a bonus track. Although fans did not expect this unique gift, Kanye has been planning the surprise with McCartney since early 2014. The singers started with a simple brainstorming session until a full song was formed.

In Kanye's statement, the celebrity revealed that he does believe the words come from him. "The process of artistic creation is one that does not involve thinking, but often channeling," the statement read.

On a side note, Kim Kardashian, a famous reality television star and Kanye's wife, finds "Only One" to be her favorite track. "I cry every time I hear this song," Kim tweeted after the song was released.
