Kacey Musgraves ditches traditional southern Bible belt rooted Country Music style and tells listeners to do what they want.

Grammy voters awarded Musgraves with Best Country Song and Best Country Album this year for her album "Same Trailer Different Park", landing it back on top of the Country Album charts.

The Texas native performed her controversial single "Follow Your Arrow" on the famous award show and according to Fox News some called the song's lyrics an "attack on Christians."

"If you save yourself for marriage, you're a bore. If you don't save yourself for marriage, you're a horrible person," the 25-year-old monotonously sings. "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls, if that's what you're into. When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight, roll up a joint, or don't... If you don't go to Church, you'll go to hell. If you're the first one on the front row, you're a self-righteous son-of-a..."

Country music originated in the rural regions of the South in the United States.  The genre is predominately known for its honest lyrics, mostly rooted in its Christian roots to some degree. Musgraves stated in an interview with London's Secret Sessions that her topics are not controversial to her because she believes in a liberal life style.

She also told country music publication The Boot, "At first, I was like, 'There's going to be backlash.' I know a lot of people don't really agree with those things, especially in the South." Adding, "But there's actually a lot less criticism towards that song than I imagined... Even if they don't agree with the girls kissing girls thing or even the drug reference, I would hope that they would agree that no matter what we all should be able to love who we want to love and live how we want to live."

Country music has been shifting gears for some time now from its conservative views. Toby Keith and Carrie Underwood are just some of the Mega-stars that have come out in support of gay marriage.

"Controversial topics have never been foreign to country music, but the more contemporary social issues such as sexual orientation are a bit new," noted country recording artist and RNC performer, Beau Davidson.

Many people have disagreed with Musgraves approach to Country music. One country lover posted on Fox news, "Good-bye Country music. Used to be that Country music was America. There isn't any real country stars left." Another proclaiming, "It's just encouraging extremism - which is what's wrong with this country"
