'Jurassic World' Sequel Confirmed: Blockbust Movie Set for June 2018 Release
Universal Pictures recently announced that the sequel to the blockbuster movie 'Jurassic World' will release on June 22, 2018. While the studio is yet to announce the name of the director for the sequel, most of the starts from the first move will be returning to the screen.
Citing a report in Entertainment Weekly, IB Times reports that 'Jurassic World' co-writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly are also set to write the sequel. However, Trevorrow will not be at the helm of the 'Jurassic World' sequel, unlike its predecessor. Although the director for the 'Jurassic World' sequel has not been announced yet, it is expected that Steven Spielberg will be returning as executive director of the sequel, while Frank Marshall will once again be the producer. The stars of the original 'Jurassic World,' Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, have all signed on for the sequel too.
When 'Jurassic World' was released on June 12, it shattered box office records and eventually the movie turned out to be the third highest-grossing film of all time. It has earned $1.522 billion from box office collections worldwide. 'Avatar,' which grossed $2.79 billion, and 'Titanic,' which grossed $.2.18 billion, are the only two movies ahead it.
'Jurassic World' grossed $614.3 million at the domestic box office, making it the fourth movie of North America to cross the $600 million mark. In China alone, the movie made $130 million. As per schedule, 'Jurassic World' will be releasing in Japan next on Aug. 5. In fact, , it took ten years for the movie to be completed, reports Business Insider, adding, and it cost around $150 million.
According to CNBC, the huge success of 'Jurassic World' is partly attributed to its appeal to a large audience. Over 60 percent of the audience at the movie's opening weekend was above 25 years old, which suggests that they were old enough to remember the original 'Jurassic Park' movie that started the would-be trilogy.
CNBC quoted IMAX president Greg Foster as saying, "The director was fantastic at finding a way to honor the past but make it new in a contemporary way."
In addition, 'Jurassic World' also appealed to the four basic segments of Hollywood: male, female, young and old. As 'Jurassic World' got a PG-13 rating and not R, parents who enjoyed the original 'Jurassic Park' were able to bring their kids. Foster also praised the director, Trevorrow, for the film's broad appeal, saying, "He found this amazing sweet spot." Foster added, "It's for fanboys and for families."
