'Jurassic World 2' Release Date & News: J.A. Bayona Confirms Trilogy; Production Of Second Movie On Track
"Jurassic World 2" director J.A. Bayona recently confirmed that the film is going to be a trilogy.
The idea of turning "Jurassic World" into a trilogy was first conceived by "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, but it wasn't until recently that it was confirmed by "Jurassic World 2" director Bayona himself. The director confirmed at the Toronto International Film Festival that his film will be the second part of the trilogy.
Revealing some details about his contribution to the franchise and the planned sequel, the director said that they are currently working on the script and that production is already on track. He also revealed that filming will officially start in February in Hawaii.
"I think they love 'The Impossible' and 'The Orphanage'-especially Colin (Trevorrow) loved those movies. It's very interesting. The whole 'Jurassic World' is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We're writing the second chapter, and it's very interesting where he's leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it's a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It's very exciting right now," he said.
The director promised to bring "new stuff" in the story, so as to avoid the fate of "Jurassic Park III." The franchise will not stick to dinosaurs chasing humans around on an island, but will introduce new settings and explore the real world.
"Jurassic World 2" hits theaters on June 22, 2018.
