'Jurassic World 2' Cast Update: Sam Neill Not Coming Back As Alan Grant?
Recently, Sam Neill sat down with ShortList for an interview to promote his new film "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," where he was asked if he might ever return to the world of dinosaurs in "Jurassic World 2." Rather than avoiding the question, the actor gave a humorous narrative reason as to why the upcoming film may no longer see the return of his character, Dr. Alan Grant.
"I think the problem is that no one knows where Alan Grant is anymore. He's retired from paleontology. He's sick to death of dinosaurs and running. He's not quite as fleet of foot as he was, and he's now retired to Dayton, Ohio and has a very successful accountancy business. I think that's what's happened to Alan. Either that or he's dead," he explained.
While it is unimaginable to see Alan Grant ever walking away from his study, Sam Neill offered a good reason for him to just leave paleontology behind, especially after considering the events that took place in "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic Park III."
"How do you recover from all of that stuff? I don't think therapists are trained to deal with post-dino stuff. No. I don't think you get over it. Accountancy would be one way," he said.
The actor said "The call hasn't come" for his character to return in the "Jurassic World" sequel.
"No one can find Grant. He's disappeared. Someone found his hat. His hat was floating on the Hudson River, but that was the last ever heard of him," said the actor.
"Jurassic World 2" is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 22, 2018.
