'Jonny Quest' New Movie News: Warner Bros. to Continue Production of Upcoming Reboot

Recent news tells us that an abandoned script for a retelling of 'Jonny Quest' has been picked back up by Warner Bros. Additionally, Robert Rodriguez has also been attached to direct this project.

"Rodriguez has made a name for himself with his violent action pics, but his most successful films to date have been the family-friendly 'Spy Kids' movies. That franchise comes from the same mold as 'Jonny Quest,' making him seem the perfect fit for the adaptation," writes Variety.

During the film's initial development, actor Zac Efron was rumored for the lead, and Dwayne Johnson was attached to play Race Bannon. It is unconfirmed if the film will still be going in this direction.

The Hanna-Barbara series centered around young boy that accompanied his father on extravagant adventures around the world.

"Quest was a 1964 ABC primetime cartoon that chronicles the neato adventures of Quest, a boy who accompanies his father on globe-spanning missions. Rounding out the team are Hadji, a Kolkatan orphan and Jonny's best friend; his pet bulldog, Bandit; and government agent/bodyguard Race Bannon. (Jonny was voiced by Tim Matheson of Animal House fame, and his father, Benton C. Quest, was voiced by John Stephenson, who passed away last week,)" writes THR.

The cartoon series only saw one season due to the lack of popularity, but was later seen to be revived in the 1980's and 1990's in respective reboots building a sort of cult following.

As it stands, there is currently no release date for the project.
