Jon Bon Jovi News: A Split from a Longtime Record Label

Pop rock icon Jon Bon Jovi is parting ways with his record label of 32 years, the 53-year-old recently told Billboard.

"It's the end of an era," Bon Jovi said of his split with Mercury Records before a show at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

As noted by a Yahoo report, the news comes a day after the release of Bon Jovi's "fan album" "Burning Bridges," which according to him was originally a collection of songs meant to accompany the group's upcoming 12-show tour of Southeast Asia.

But as it turns out, it symbolizes something more.

"[It fulfills] a commitment to Mercury records. After 32 years, we have parted ways. That is the big news. If you listen to "Burning Bridges' the song, it is clearly spelled out."

Indeed it is, as the lyrics go, "After 30 years of loyalty, they let you dig the grave / Now maybe you can learn to sing or strum along / We'll give you half the publishing / You're why I wrote this song."

The record label is a subsidiary of the Universal Music Group, which operates under the Island Records banner, as pointed out by Yahoo. As noted by the report, Bon Jovi has sold 21.8 million albums in the United States, which include five songs that have hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The rock outfit also has 25 Billboard Hot 100 hits, along with 10 top 10s and four No. 1s.

"A lot happened. Richie's [Sambora] sudden departure, my trying to buy the [Bufallo] Bills and now this with the label. I have a lot of material to write about. Believe me, the new record is good. It's pointed. It is something we are going to be very proud of in the spring when we put it out," Bon Jovi said.

Bon Jovi was about to perform with his sideband Jon Bon Jovi & The Kings of Suburbia when he announced the news.
