Joey and Rory Feek Cancer Update: Couple's 'Hymns' Album Hits No. 1 Spot On Billboard's Country Music Sales Chart
Country music couple Joey and Rory Feek reigned at Billboard's Top 100 Country Music Sales Chart for this week with their album "Hymns."
The song climbed the top spot (dated March 5), as reported by Billboard. Sourcing Nielsen Music, "Hymns" and the whole country album had total sales of 68,000 copies until Feb. 18. On the other hand, it debuts at No. 4 in Billboard 200 with 70,000 in consumption and also opens at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums as well.
The achievement, as well as the song, is defined as "bittersweet." Joey Feek has been ill with cancer after relapsing last year and is under hospice care with the family.
"No one is more surprised that our "Hymns" record has sold this many copies than Joey and I," Rory said. "For the last few months, we've been in Indiana, far away from the music business, living and sharing the story of our personal journey through my blog," he continued.
Rory also added that they were not expecting the success, but explained that their newest effort is a byproduct made out of love. In a press release, the couple revealed some of the details about the song and the whole album.
Twelve out of 13 songs are produced by Rory Feek and Joe West while the single "When You're Gone" is produced by Gary Pacsoza.
Meanwhile, Gaither Music Group Vice President Paul Sizelove admitted that they are honored to work alongside Joey and Rory and to represent their brand.
"Like so many people, not only are we proud of the art they create, we are inspired by the lives they live and the messages they share through their words and actions," as quoted.
