Joe Biden's House Shooting News: Gunshots Fired from Road Near Vice President's Home
Media outlets are reporting the breaking news that gunshots have been fired near U.S. vice president Joe Biden's Delaware residence. The incident occurred on Saturday, when the vice president and his wife, Jill, were not at home.
The gunshots were fired from a passing vehicle and the incident occurred at about 8:25 pm local time, according to CNN. Apparently, the vice president's residence is several hundred yards from the main road where the shots were fired. The place where the shots were fired was a public main road, Greenville, which lies outside the security parameter.
A U.S. Secret Service official was quoted saying that multiple shots were fired on a public road outside an established security perimeter and heard by Secret Service personnel posted at the residence, according to CNN.
Speaking on the firing, Robert Hoback said, "A vehicle drove by the vice president's residence at a high rate of speed and fired multiple gunshots. This occurred on a public road outside the established security perimeter. The shots were heard by Secret Service personnel posted at the residence and a vehicle was observed by an agent, leaving the scene at a high rate of speed," according to CNN.
An arrest was made only half hour after the shooting, wherein the local police detained an individual who was passing in a vehicle that attempted to pass a police officer in charge of the area. Although news on whether or not this individual is connected to the issue remains unclear, the Secret Service continues its investigation, according to Reuters.
Searches were due to be conducted outside the home and nearby residences in New Castle County to see if any buildings were hit by bullets.
On that note, President Obama and Biden were briefed about the incident.
Such an alarming incident comes to light only months after there was a major security lapse at the White House when an armed intruder with a knife managed to sneak in.
