Jeremy Clarkson News: BBC Pulls Live 'Top Gear' Shows After Star's Controversial Charity Speech
Jeremy Clarkson, long-time presenter for BBC's hit series "Top Gear," is reportedly in more trouble with the network after his explicative speech at a charity auction event this past weekend.
The morning after the auction, Clarkson woke up to see that his speech at the charity gala for young people at the Roundhouse in North London had been recorded and uploaded to YouTube. He then received an earful from his lawyer.
In his column with the Sunday Times, Clarkson wrote, "But it was all meant in jest and anyway it worked. By being brief, controversial and bit sweary woke the room up and the auction prize I was offering - one last lap of the Top Gear test track - raised £100,000."
His speech at the charity auction isn't the first incident where Clarkson puts himself as a target for the BBC network. According to Deadline the host is suspended after allegedly punching the show's producer Oisin Tymon during a fight after filming an episode.
Many point out that the star will most likely be fired soon. His future with BBC will likely be decided this week when "the corporation's internal investigation into his behavior is handed over to the director general," according to The Guardian.
Upon hearing about Clarkson's suspension, fans petitioned for his reinstatement via Change.org. It received over 1 million signatures and was delivered by a military tank to BBC headquarters in London on Friday.
Clarkson who was grateful for his fan's support stated in his column that protests rarely work.
With Clarkson out of the "Top Gear" game, BBC decided to cancel four of its live shows in Norway that were to be held on March 27 and 28. They will reschedule them for some time later this year.
