Jennifer Lopez TV Series News: Singer Collaborates With ‘Selena’ Director for NBC Show ‘California’
Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and 'Selena' director Gregory Nava have teamed up to work on an NBC limited series titled 'California,' which will focus on the history of the West Coast U.S. State. The project will follow a fictional Latino family and their 200-year account in California ranging from Spanish, to Mexican to American rule.
Latin Post reports that Nava and his old-time associate Barbara Martinez-Jitner, both natives of California, will write the series, while Nava will direct it.
The series will be produced by Lopez and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, under the banner of her production company Nuyorican Productions together with Nava, Martinez-Jitner and Benny Medina.
Lopez and her production house have produced a few television serials on earlier occasions too. Currently, Nuyorican has one drama series on the air - 'The Fosters' on ABC Family, while the NBC show 'Shades of Blue' starring Lopez is in the pipeline.
Lopez and Nava know one another since 1995 when the director cast the singer-actress in his film 'My Family,' which lead to her central role in his 1997 biography-drama 'Selena.' They both worked together again in the 2006 film 'Bordertown,' directed by Nava.
Nava and Lopez have been close friends and the director accompanied Lopez to the unveiling of her 2013 Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
'California' comes soon after Lopez's collaboration with Rihanna on the new DreamWorks Pictures animated film titled 'Home,' a 3D movie which is slated for March 27 release. Two singles released by these two singers will accompany the movie. Lopez and Rihanna released "Feel the Light," while Rihanna released another single, "Towards the Sun," soon after. In fact, Lopez also portrays the character of Lucy Tucci, Tip's mother.
As of now, Lopez is single and seems to be enjoying the time she has for family as well as new opportunities while being "unattached," the report says. Recently, she told Us Weekly, "I think being on my own has been really great for me."
