Jennifer Lawrence News: 'Hunger Games' Actress and Co-Stars Launch PSA for Ebola Research
This Monday, 24-year-old actress Jennifer Lawrence went public with her 'Hunger Games' co-stars to show support for the Ebola Survival Fund. They sent out a public service announcement in a serious, black and white video with one main point- help the Ebola victims of Africa.
In the two-minute video, the famous actors and actresses pointed out the benefits of using more technologically advanced medical services. They addressed the issue of the outbreak that has gone untreated throughout Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone- the three countries that are suffering the most from the spread of Ebola. Statistically, tn these parts of Africa, the survival rate is 20%.
This is a truly daunting number considering the survival rate in America is 100%, and we have been better equipped to maintain and minimize the number of Ebola victims to eight. In other words, there are 19,643 cases in West Africa as of December 22, 2014, and only eight cases in America. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth want U.S. citizens to realize that the ability to limit the outbreak and save the people of Africa is in our hands.
Jennifer reminded us in the video that there is not the same level of care in Africa as there is in the America. To make matters worse, doctors there are dying while treating the disease.
"Liberia has 50 doctors for 4.4 million people," said Josh Hutcherson. Towards the end of the video, Josh turned to Jennifer and asked, "Know what would happen if you got Ebola?"
To which Jennifer replied, "I'd be fine."
The PSA also included the 'Hunger Games' stars Jeffrey Wright, Mahershala Ali and Julianne Moore.
