Bruce Jenner Car Accident News: Former Olympian Was Not Texting During Crash Says Publicist

A publicist for former Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner said that the former was not texting while driving when he figured in a frightening highway accident that left one woman dead, the Associated Press reports.

"The evidence will show that Bruce was not texting at the time of the accident," Alan Nierob said, adding that Jenner is open to providing his cellphone record should authorities request for it.

The reality TV star was driving a black Cadillac Escalade along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu when he hit a Lexus sedan from behind, which in turn slammed into a Toyota Prius. The Lexus was shoved into oncoming traffic and smashed head-on with a black Hummer.

The driver of the Lexus, 69-year-old Kim Howe from Calabasas, California, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Yahoo! report.

"My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident," Jenner said in a released statement.

"It is a devastating tragedy I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them."

The incident was first reported by TMZ, which also posted images online showing the Lexus crushed in both the front and the back. The photos also showed the Hummer incurring a heavily damaged engine with the hood popped open.

Responding police said that Jenner passed field sobriety tests and voluntarily submitted a blood sample to determine whether he was under the influence.

The accident comes at the heels of news that Jenner will be publicly discussing his transition into becoming a woman with Diane Sawyer of ABC.

On a side note, Jenner won the gold in the men's decathlon at the 1976 Olympic games.
