Jay Z and Beyonce Unequally Yoked? Rapper Hints at Five-Percent Nation Belief with Medallion Chain Despite Wife's 'Christian' Background

The media has created a frenzy because Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z was spotted over the weekend wearing a Five-Percent Nation medallion. The piece represents a group that is viewed as a little more than an off-shoot of the Nation of Islam while his wife, Grammy award-winning singer Beyoncé, has publicly attributed her faith to Christianity.

The Nation of Gods and Earths, also known as, Five Percent Nation, have been characterized as an organization, an institution, and a religion of representatives that Islam is a natural or mathematical way of living.

Members of the group call themselves Allah's Five Percenters, which reflects the concept that ten percent of the people of the world know the truth of existence, and those elites opt to keep eighty-five percent of the world in ignorance and under their controlling thumb.

Founder of the group, Clarence 13X, broke away from traditional Islam belief that Allah was god and taught that the elite themselves are god's personified.

The Brooklyn native is often pegged or grouped in as being a member of the Illuminati for accusations that are similar to what the five percenters believe.

His wife, R&B singer Beyoncé, has never shied away from mentioning God throughout the years of her career. Early on with Destiny's Child, she was known to occasionally sing a few gospel numbers. Since the five time Grammy Award winning singer-parted ways with the trio, the intensity of her Jesus-focused songs have slowed down dramatically.

Many in social media spike her as pushing anti-Christian values with her over sexualized dance moves and lyrics, and have claimed she too is in the Illuminati. In her autobiographical television film, "Life Is But a Dream," Beyoncé talked openly about God. She stated that she is a result of her grandma's prayers and that God lives inside of her.

Jay-Z has been heard saying that he believes in one God, but does not identify with any particular denominations. He also said that he takes things from "Islam" and other beliefs but does not mention any other specific religions. Beyoncé also has referred to God but she no longer clarifies if it is Jesus she is speaking of.

Whether Jay-Z wore the medallion as a gimmick or to represent his belief, he has yet to comment. The New York Post reported that Five Percent Nation believes "Black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization," and that "white men are the devil, the Christian god is nothing more than a ghost, and only a small percentage of people understand the world."

In Christian Theology the belief is that God is the Creator of all and He sent His only begotten son Jesus to die to free all people from sin. The Bible says in Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

If Beyoncé, who was raised Christian still holds to her faith, she and her husband may be what the Bible considers unequally yoked. In 2 Corinthians 6:14 the Bible states, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers." Unbelievers being those who do not believe in the Christian faith.

Below are two videos, one of Jay-z speaking about religion and his beliefs and the other of his wife taking about God.
