Japan Heightens Security at Airports and Facilities Overseas after ISIS Beheads Kenji Goto

After journalist Kenji Goto was beheaded by ISIS this weekend, Japan intensified its security precautions at their facilities overseas and at their airports.

Goto was a freelance war correspondent and a Christian. Following the birth of his daughter in late October, he had left for Syria then. The journalist was last seen in a video released online on Saturday, kneeling next to a masked man dressed in black from head-to-toe with his face covered.

The masked man explained in the video that the beheading is in conclusion of the Japanese government"s irresponsible decisions, probably in reference to Tokyo's financial aid to refugees fleeing from ISIS-controlled areas such as Iraq and Syria. The man also added that the beheading signifies the beginning of "Japanese's nightmare."

Rinko Jogo, Goto's wife, said she's hurting but she's also proud of her husband at the same time. "I remain extremely proud of my husband, who reported the plight of people in conflict areas like, Iraq, Somalia and Syria," she said.

Goto's mother, Junko Ishido, told reporters: "I can't find the words to describe how I feel about my son's very sad death."

Meanwhile, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe defends his policy towards terrorism and said his government shall further humanitarian assistance to the Middle East. Abe plans to give $200 million in non-military aid to contend against ISIS.

The Prime Minister's undertaking came days after the jihadists demanded $200 million ransom for the two Japanese hostages.

"I am extremely angry about these heinous and despicable terrorist acts. We will never forgive terrorists. We will cooperate with the international community to make them atone for their crimes," Abe told reporters.

"As international society seeks to restore peace and stability in the Middle East, I thought it would be the most appropriate destination to visit and that I should broadcast my message to the world from there," Abe pointed out.
