'Jane The Virgin' Season 2 Episode 18 Recap, Spoilers: Michael, Rafael Insecure About Mateo?
"Jane the Virgin" season 2, episode 18 saw one of the most intense fights between Jane and Xo.
Titled "Chapter 40," the episode opened with a flashback showing Jane's passion for salsa dancing as a child. However, she decided to stop when she realized she wasn't good at it. While Alba convinced her to pursue dancing, Xo told her it was just okay to quit. This event in their past cropped up again as they dealt with their current dispute.
"Chapter 40" saw how the rift between Jane and Xo continued on despite Rogelio's endless attempts to patch things up between them. Neither of the two was ready to step down, so the tension simply built up throughout the episode. Things even got worse when Xo bailed on babysitting Mateo, leaving everything to Jane.
Michael offered to watch Mateo as Jane minded her rewrite, but Jane was hesitant to entrust Mateo to Michael despite the fact that he was her fiancé. The babysitting thing brought about new problems for Michael and Rafael, who have been in a love triangle with Jane since day one. Now that Mateo had just uttered his first "Dada" to Michael and not to his biological father Rafael, both men are full of insecurity about the baby.
Aside from rifts, episode 19 also hinted at a blossoming relationship between Rogelio and Dina, who shared a passionate kiss towards the end of the episode. It also followed Jane as she struggled to rewrite her story to match the taste of her professor without losing her voice as a writer.
In the end, Jane was able to finish her story and was invited back to the program. She engaged in a heart-to-heart talk with Michael about Mateo, but trouble seems to be in the offing because of a mysterious character spying on Michael.
