James Bond 'Spectre' Theme Song News: Sam Smith to Perform “Writing’s On The Wall” [VIDEO]
Since the release of 'Dr. No' in 1962, the theme song of every James Bond movie has turned out to be as popular as the Bond girls, gadgets and villains. Following several months of speculations over who would sing the theme song for the upcoming Bond flick, 'Spectre,' it has finally been announced that it will be performed by the noted British recording artist, Sam Smith.
A report in by IB Times says that the announcement stating that the 23-year-old Smith would be singing the theme was made on 007.com. The theme song, penned by Smith and Grammy winner Jimmy Napes, will be called "Writing's On The Wall" and it will be the first Bond theme song to be recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.
The announcement was also posted on the official James Bond Twitter account early Tuesday. The post reads, "In a statement to the official Bond site, 'Spectre' producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had high praise for the song. Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for 'Spectre' and with Sam's extraordinary vocal performance; 'Writing's On The Wall' will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time."
For those interested, "Writing's On The Wall" will be available for purchase and to stream on Sept. 25. Smith told 007.com, and that he is honored to perform the song and considers it one of the highlights of his career.
He said, "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
The Hollywood Reporter stated that Smith has been a favorite to perform the theme after Adele sang the theme song for the 2015 Bond film, 'Skyfall.'
Usually, each Bond theme can be heard in the opening credits of each film. Each opening sequence is usually beautifully made with all sorts of visual effects and animation, similar to what was done in the opening sequence of the last Bond film, 'Skyfall.'
'Spectre' is expected to be released in theaters on Nov. 6.
