'Jack and the Beanstalk' Movie 2015 News: Disney Acquires Rights to Fairy Tale, Vince Gilligan to Direct Adaptation

So far, the classic fairy tale 'Jack and the Beanstalk' has been retold innumerable times in both movies and on television. Now, some reports have hinted that Disney has acquired the rights to the story and a new live-action movie for it will be directed by 'Breaking Bad' director Vince Gilligan.

Areport by The Hollywood Reporter says that Giligan version of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' will be a revisionist one. Nevertheless, as of now very little information about the upcoming movie is available and all that is known is the presence of a boy, a giant, a beanstalk, and some (magic?) beans.

Morover, some reports have claimed that Emmy-award winning 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul' writer Thomas Schnauz is currently writing the screenplay for Gilligan's version of 'Jack and the Beanstalk.'

According to a statement released by Screenrant, saying that such revisionist re-tellings are useful for studios like Disney increase their earnings by take advantage of the already existing, tested properties like 'Cinderella' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk.'

The statement issued by Screenrant reads, "Disney has been on live-action-adaptation spree ever since Cinderella hit the box office and was a critical and commercial hit ($458 million Worldwide), already announcing brand new installments of 'Dumbo,' 'Mulan' and 'Beauty and the Beast' in an effort to double-dip with live-action versions of classic animated classics."

The statement goes on to say, "While some will scoff at live-action adaptations of iconic cartoons, it's actually refreshing to see Disney has found a way to bring live-action fairy tales back to the forefront, especially when their animated films ('Tangled,' 'Frozen' and Big Hero 6') are also performing well at the box office - with no sign of slowing down."

According to a Kdramastars report, Disney created an animated version of the favorite fairy tale titled 'Mickey and the Beanstalk' in 1947. This movie features Mickey, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Willie the Giant. According to reports, the upcoming live-action 'Jack and the Beanstalk' movie will be on the "edgier" side, a development that seemed obvious in all latest Disney films, counting 'Maleficent' as well as 'Cinderella.'
