Is Drinking Coffee Good For You? New Study Shows Daily Cup of Coffee May Reduce Risk of Developing Liver Cancer
A recent scientific study has shown that adding coffee to your daily regiment might, in the long run, decrease your chances of ever getting liver cancer.
In a current report by Word Cancer Research Fund, there was strong evidence found that coffee decreased the risk of having hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer. Although, liver cancer is only second most common cancers in the world, it has accounted to 756,000 deaths globally in 2012. Diagnosis for the disease is reported to increase up to 1.3 million in 2035.
There are certain compounds found in coffee called Kahweol and Cafestol that was seen to reduce liver cancer cells by 50%. Coffee was also found to lessen toxicity of fungi bi-product called "aflatoxin" which occurs in food without proper storage. Certain proteins had a detoxification defense towards the fungal toxin.
Another interesting find on the study was also a improving trend on insulin sensitivity with coffee drinkers with Type 2 diabetes who have risks of getting liver cancer.
The team of international researchers were able analyze diet, obesity, physical activity, alcohol intake and coffee drinking habits of an estimated 8 million men and women and 24,600 patients diagnosed with liver cancer since 2007 from various studies all over the world.
A notable research team in 2013 from Università degli Studi di Milan in Italy had seen that the risk of having liver cancer lowered from drinking three cups of coffee per day.
