‘Iron Man’ 4 Release Date Canceled? Robert Downey Jr. Says It’s Not Happening

'Iron Man' fans are not happy after Robert Downey Jr. revealed some disappointing news about a fourth installment to the franchise. It seems as though there's no 'Iron Man 4' coming out in the near future.

In an interview with Variety, Downey Jr. himself said "There isn't one in the pipe," and, "No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"

This is a big contradiction to what Downey Jr. said to Entertainment Weekly via Comic-Con when he talked about his role in the Marvel Universe.

"It's down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree," Downey Jr. said, "When things are going great, there's a lot of agreement."

During the Variety interview, he was asked if he is willing to hand over the role of Tony Stark.

"I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I'm casting director for Marvel," he said.

Downey Jr. seemed to be okay with not being updated on the future plans for Marvel's 'Iron Man' franchise. Many fans believe that it would be almost impossible to see another person in the iconic metal suit on-screen. However, in an ET interview, he was somehow confident that he would still hold on to the role, in the event of another film.

"It's that thing of: why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?" he said, "Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out."

Meanwhile, Downey Jr. was named by Forbes Magazine as the highest paid actor in the world after earning $75 million last year.

'Iron Man 3' was the highest grossing live-action film for 2013 with $1.21 billion in ticket sales.
