'Iron Man 4' Release Date Rumors, Cast: Robert Downey Jr. Will Be Replaced By Younger Actor?
Robert Downey Jr. might be lending credence to all the rumors about being replaced by a younger actor in what could be an "Iron Man 4" reboot.
The subject of reprising his role as Tony Stark in the standalone film was brought up anew during the promotion of "Civil War," and Downey was not overly optimistic about that happening.
"I don't think that's in the cards," he said, in an interview with USA Today.
He quickly added, "In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."
That seems to be address all the rumors and speculative news reports regarding "Iron Man 4," according to Comic Book.
The website said, "Because he figures so prominently into Civil War, it makes sense that any kind of Iron Man sequel is on the back-burner, at least for the moment. He'll also most likely be heavily featured in Avengers Infinity War Parts 1 and 2, so there should be no shortage of screen time for the Downey Jr."
But there's a reason why all the rumors surrounding "Iron Man 4" just won't die down. The 2013 "Iron man 3" earned a total of $1,215,439,994 in worldwide box office receipts, which nearly doubled the 2010 sequel that grossed $623.9 million.
Marvel can't just ignore all those figures by not doing everything it can to get Robert Downey Jr. to wear the suit again for "Iron Man 4," hence all the rumors and news reports.
