iPod Touch 6th Generation Release Date, Price, Specs: Launches October 16, New and Improved Features

The Apple iPod Touch 6G will reportedly be released alongside a slew of other devices on October 16.

The highly anticipated music/video player will launch together with the iPad Mini and iPad Air 2 this October.

Aside from that, Apple has several other devices on the line, making sure that they close with a bang before the year's end. These include the iPod Nano 8G, iPod Touch 6, Apple Watch, iPad Mini 2014 as well as a larger iPhone 6 operating on the new iOS 8.

Meanwhile, several improvements were speculated regarding the next generation iPod Touch 6G including a larger screen size, enhanced camera, and hardware.

The new iPod Touch 6th Generation will come in a variety of colors including orange, pink, green, blue, light grey, dark grey and red.

Also, it will reportedly sport a larger screen size of 5-inches and will have a resolution of 1280 x 720 megapixels, with 440 pixels per inch.

The device will boast of a 1.5-megapixel front-facing camera with HD video capability of up to 720p and 30 fps, while an 8-megapixel iSight camera at the back of the device will have several features like backside illumination, auto-focus, LED flash, five-element lens, face detection and hybrid IR filter. 

The iPod Touch 6th Generation will be powered by the fast and powerful A6 dual-core processor with at 1 GHz, and will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB versions, reportedly extending to 128 GB.

Aside from that, the iPod Touch 6th Generation was speculated to acquire Near Field Communication (NFC) that will allow a secure sharing data between mobile devices.

In terms of the battery life, the new device was rumored to sport an Organic Radical Battery (ORB), which the iPhone 6 currently has, allowing the upcoming iPod Touch to have a music playback time of up to 60 hours and 10 hours for video playing.

The iPod Touch 4G 32 GB will start at $249 while the iPod Touch 5G 32GB will cost $299, and $399 for the 64 GB version.

The iPod Touch 6G will cost the same as the iPod Touch 5G.
