iPhone 7 Rumors, News: Apple to Launch Next Flagship iPhone With A9 Chip from Samsung
Even as speculations regarding Apple Inc.'s upcoming smartphone models continue to flood the Internet, an analyst has forecast that the next flagship smartphone of the company will come with the latest touch technology and Apple may probably name the new handset iPhone 7.
IB Times reports that the upcoming iPhone will sport a new capacitive Force Touch sensor that will be installed below the backlight, thereby enabling the device to determine the pressure being applied on the screen by means of examining the contact area where the user's finger applies pressure. This was reported by MacRumors on Thursday citing KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The report comes soon after the rumors that Samsung will manufacture the main chip in the upcoming iPhone model.
In a note to investors on Thursday, Kuo wrote, "There are two possible structural designs for Force Touch from a technology viewpoint. The Force Touch sensor can either be placed between the cover lens and the In-cell touch panel or under the In-cell touch panel's backlight." The KGI Securities analyst added that introduction of the new Force Touch technology may possibly direct Apple to name its next iPhone the "iPhone 7," rather than the rumored "iPhone 6S."
Kuo further said, "Our understanding of the technology is that producing a transparent Force Touch sensor is more difficult, so the chances are the new iPhone this year will opt for the second position."
Meanwhile, last week, Taiwan's DigiTimes reported that Apple may possibly launch three new iPhone models in the second half of 2015. According to this tech publication, the company's first and second new models would probably be called the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, respectively. The third new model, having a 4-inch display - would be called the iPhone 6C.
Contrary to the report in the publication, Kuo claimed that it is still possible for Apple to focus on its 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays for the forthcoming iPhones, and, hence, Apple is unlikely to release a 4-inch iPhone model in 2015.
Bloomberg, meanwhile, published a report on Friday that stated Samsung will be the manufacturer of the new A9 chip, which will power Apple's next-generation iPhone model. In addition, citing people familiar with the developments, the report claimed that Samsung will commence the manufacture of the Apple A9 processor at the company's Giheung plant in South Korea.
Provided the rumor regarding the Samsung-made A9 processor comes true, it will be a boost for the South Korean technology giant, which will be able to rebound against its rival - the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which manufactured A8 processors for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices that were released last year.
