iPhone 6 Variant News, Rumors: Apple to Launch Three New Flagship Smartphone Models, 6s, 6c, 6s Plus
The success of Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models were huge, with reports coming in that 74.5 million phones were purchased in the fourth quarter of 2014 alone. Now, the company announced this weekend that three new models for the iPhone 6 will be released in the second half of this year.
According to DigiTimes, the names of these phones are the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6c models.
Sources say that all three will come with LTPS panels and supply will come from Japan Display, Sharp and LG Display. They will also be equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass. Only the 6s and 6s Plus phones will come with the A9 chip.
To reduce the cost for some consumers, Apple said the 6c will come with an A8 chip instead of an A9 and will have a 4-inch display while the other two models will have roughly a 5-inch display.
According to Motley Fool, this decision to offer a cheaper version of the phone is a good business move for the company. "A cheaper phone could quicken the upgrade cycle once users are faced with the full cost of the device. In the end, it appears Apple offering a 4-inch phone next iteration is a low-risk move to increase choice," the website said.
"Wistron is expected to manufacture the iPhone 6c while the 6s series will be assembled by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Pegatron," the sources added.
All models will get fingerprint recognition and will be able to use features such as scanning and Apply Pay digital payments platform.
On that note, many consumers are eager to hear more about the features each phone will carry as the launch date approaches.
