After months of hedging, Apple finally acknowledged the iPhone 6 Plus "touch disease." The Cupertino-based company also offers a fix but it's not for free.

"If your iPhone 6 Plus is exhibiting the symptoms noted above, is in working order, and the screen is not cracked or broken, Apple will repair your device for a service price of $149," said Apple on its website.

The iPhone 6 Plus touch disease was reported in August this year. The symptom is the same: the touchscreen freezes then a gray, flickering bar appears on top of the display screen. According to the report of one repairman, as many as 100 units come by his shop with the same problem.

"This issue is widespread enough that I feel like almost every iPhone 6/6+ has a touch of it and are like ticking bombs just waiting to act up," says Jason Villmer, STS Telecom owner, told iFixIt.

Also, the Apple forums were swamped with complaints and reports on the iPhone Plus 6 touch disease, but the company is not acknowledging the problem until now.

Those who have gone to the service centers authorized by Apple may be reimbursed for their troubles, but the max amount they can get is $149. They will cover the difference if it happens that the service provider asked for more than that amount.

Before going to the service center to fix the iPhone 6 Plus touch disease, you need to back up your data first. It's also not a guarantee that the service center will accept your device because it will cover those within the five-year period after the purchase of the unit.
