Following the launch of its jailbreak patching iteration of iOS 7, Apple Inc. has released the iOS 7.1.1, a firmware that is still mismatched with evasion, last Tuesday.

The new firmware, however, allows people possessing the iPhone 4 to run their iOS device jailbroken on the just released iOS 7.1.1. It provides an opportunity to run standard tweaks, software and mods on the older devices.

Developed by Andrea Bentivegna, an Italian software developer, the Geeksn0w jailbreak software was initially released for iPhone 4, when other developers shifted their focus to iOS 8, following the release of iOS 7.1 in March.

Like the original Geeksn0w jailbreak for iOS 7.1, this firmware is semi-tethered and requires users to connect their iPhones to computers with a view to change their device to a jailbroken mode after restarting or rebooting it. However, different from a tethered jailbreak, a phone jailbroken utilizing Geeksn0w can retreat to a non-jailbroken firmware state in case they do not have a computer with Geeksn0w.

With the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) of Apple scheduled for June, many jailbreak developers like the Evad3rs development team have turned their focus on iOS 8. This has left a void for people who still want to jailbreak their iOS 7.1.x device.

The newly released firmware comes with a number of modifications, including enhanced fingerprint recognition Touch ID. In addition, it has fixed an error that occurred while using a Bluetooth keyboard and a bug that may possibly have a negative effect on the keyboard's sensitivity.
