INTERVIEW: Joshua Rogers His New Album 'Unconditional', Performing in London and His Fall/Winter 2013 Plans
Joshua Rogers is a gospel singer who won "Sunday Best" on BET in Season 5 in 2012. Rogers now has his new album Unconditional releasing in November.
We would like to thank Joshua for taking the time to speak with BreatheCast.
BreatheCast: How excited are you for the release of your new record 'Unconditional'?
JR: I am very excited about my new record. My 1st album did very well I debuted at #1 on the billboard charts on release week. But I was disappointed to not have any original material but now my new project has 13 brand new original songs. I was even blessed to write on this project so words can't express how excited I am about the new project entitled "Unconditional".
BreatheCast: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you and what artists have influenced your sound?
JR: I consider myself to be a church boy. I love and sing contemporary gospel music but I love the old school gospel sound. I grew up listening to the Clark Sisters,Marvin Winans, Kim Burrell, Timothy Wright, and Donnie McClurkin. So I love the traditional gospel sound but I love what new artists such as myself and others in the ministry are doing such as Kierra Sheard, Tye Tribbett, Issac Caree, Alexis Spight, and of course Leandria Johnson are bringing into the industry
BreatheCast: What collaborations do you have on the new album?
JR: Seeing that my first album had all cover songs and even featured the song from the show with my sister Alexis Spight and the one and only KIm Burrell. I felt that this new record I wanted to truly introduce the world to who Joshua Rogers is and my sound.
BreatheCast: Tell us the story behind your song, "So Good"?
JR: I was privileged to co write my new single. I wrote the song based on my life story after winning the show "Sunday Best"my life changed overnight. I went from just graduating from high school into being a national recording artist traveling around the world. Performing on Celebration of Gospel everything was great. But then I started to go through trials and tribulations. And I even made mistakes after God would tell me not to but I thought I knew best. But through it all I can say God has still been so good.
BreatheCast: How was your performance on 'Time to Shine' Tv in London?
JR: My performance in London was amazing I truly was honored to be there for the first time. And the show "Time to shine" is an awesome production and I am just grateful for the opportunity.
BreatheCast: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?
JR: My favorite secular artist would definitely be either Fantasia or Jasmine Sullivan, their talents are just breathtaking. I am just floored by their voices I am a huge fan. And my favorite Christian artist is Jonathan McReynolds so he would be my choice.
BreatheCast: Do you have a current scripture that has been speaking to you? If not, what are some personal favorite verses of yours?
JR: My favorite scripture of all time is Matthew 6;33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all of these things shall be added unto you.
BreatheCast: What are your touring plans for this Fall 2013?
JR: During the fall of 2013 I am going on my promo tour for my album"Unconditional". I am so excited about this brand new record. This is going to be an amazing time and tour so I hope everyone comes out and have some church with me.
