Building 429 has been a staple of the Christian music scene for almost a decade after winning the GMA Dove Award for 'New Artist of the Year' in 2005. Their hit song "Where I belong" became a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Christian charts and an anthem in churches worldwide. Their latest album We Won't Be Shaken went to No. 1 on the Christian album charts and Top 20 on U.S. rock charts. 

The bands current line up Jason Roy (vocals/guitar), Jessie Garcia (guitar/vocals), Aaron Branch (bass/vocals) and Michael Anderson (drums). 

We would like to thank Jason for taking the time out to speak with BreatheCast. 

BreatheCast: How do you feel the response to the new album We Won't Be Shaken has been?

JR: "It is the fastest selling record of our career thus far so we are thrilled with it.  When you have a focus like we did on this record you hope that the impact matches the vision for sure.  We feel blessed beyond measure to have such wind in our sales and can't wait to see what the future will bring our way."

BreatheCast: Tell us the story behind your song, "Best and Worst"?

JR: "Every person carries insecurities and doubts about their abilities to do what God has called them to do, but what skews our vision is our worldly beliefs of success.  For example: If you don't believe that being in jail is something that God could use for his purposes then you'd be sadly mistaken.  Paul wrote half of the new testament under lock and key with the threat of death.  That would be the worst possible circumstance, but he uses the best of us... David with a sling, and the worst moments of us.... Paul in prison, for his Glory.  It's a beautiful thought that truly sets us free... that's why I love this song."

BreatheCast: What are 3 essential snacks that you guys have to have on the road?

JR: "Well, we eat mostly healthy stuff, so there are some paleo treats that we love.  Power Crunch bars, Paleo Sticks (beef jerky), and vegetable trays.... yeah we cheat from time to time with the ranch dressing."

BreatheCast: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?

JR: "Tobymac would be a fun collaboration and Bono from U2 would be mind-blowing.  My guess is that we wouldn't even know how to say hi to Bono!"

BreatheCast: What advice would you give to up and coming Christian bands?

JR: "To quote somebody I never thought I would quote (Ashton Kutcher), I'd say this: Opportunities look a lot like work.  The truth is that if you want to do Christian music as a profession nobody can give it to you.  You have to go out and work for it.... you have to be focused and you have to have a desire to lead people to Jesus.  The fakes can hang in short term, but only the truly committed, hardworking bands are able to make a legitimate career of it."

BreatheCast: What is the biggest mistake you have ever made on stage while performing?

JR: "I used to get upset when people didn't seem to be into what we were doing.  Years of touring finally revealed to me that my responsibility was to lead with authority and with authenticity no matter what I perceive the crowd's level of response may be.  It was an amazing day when I began to realize that the joy of my own life didn't have to be hampered by my what I thought others were thinking about me.  When I finally started letting the joy that I felt overflow I realized that in most cases it was contagious and that it wasn't my job to try to fabricate anything. I'm blessed to sing to the Lord, and that singly revelation has created a huge ground swell of fans who come to our shows ready to have fun."

BreatheCast: If you guys could each play professionally for any sports team for one day, who would you guys pick?

JR: "I would personally play basketball for the Chicago Bulls.  I grew up a huge fan during the MJ days and there is still something nostalgic about them... get healthy Derek Rose... your franchise needs you."

BreatheCast: You guys have a big headlining tour coming up this Fall, tell us about that.

JR: "We are thrilled to be sharing the stage with The Afters this fall on the 'United We Stand Tour'.  It is truly a stacked line-up, especially when you add Hawk Nelson and Finding Favour.  We feel unbelievably blessed to be able to be a part of the tour and can't wait to get out on the road and be a part of something that we hope is life changing.  All the bands are extremely talented, and after tour rehearsals I have to say... it's unbelievable how many hits you're gonna hear in a 3 hour period.  For more info go our website and get a ticket.
