Interview: Bryan Duncan Talks About His New Album "Conversations."
Bryam Duncan has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Christian music. Started off as the lead singer of Sweet Comfort Band before pursuing a successful solo career which has spanned for more than 25 years. As a receipt of countless Dove and Grammy nominations, Duncan has blessed us with hit songs such as "Traces of Heaven," "Things Are Gonna Change," "United We Stand" and "Don't Look Away." Recently, Duncan has released his much anticipated new album "Conversations." (Go to our review section to read our review). And he has graciously taken time to chat with us here at Breathecast:
BREATHEcast: We were so privileged here at Breathecast to have recently reviewed your new album "Conversations," could you tell us why is the album entitled "Conversations"?
It's the beginning of a relationship first of all. And inspired by the interaction I am now having with literally everyone who invests in my music from 1 CD buyers to contributors on my Indiegogo.com Campaigns. It's also an acknowledgment of where my sanity comes from 8).. we all need that interaction with others to sort out the confusions in our own heads.
BREATHEcast: How is "Conversations" similiar or/and different from your other albums?
It's far and away more gratitude based songs. No complaining really.
BREATHEcast: I know you went through some toils and tribulations in getting this album out, could you tell us about the process of how the album came together?
Well, four years of building an online presence, 2 campaigns on Kickstarter.com
And now monthly on Indiegogo.com for online sales. Learning the shipping business and at least fifty other applications to address Marketing. Of Course 1 year of writing, arranging, producing and recording the 14 song effort. Which included a full band production. An IRS edit for the unusual amount of money coming in in 2011.. dealing with new financial accounting to separate expenditures. Researching Manufacturing and Distribution. Hiring promotion to radio and developing graphic art ourselves and thru other photographers and artists. When you buy the record you will get "Soul Furnace" reports that give you incredible details about all that goes on behind the scenes to make music happen.
BREATHEcast: I really like "Loving You," "I See You" and "Nothing to Prove," which songs from "Conversations" mean the most to you?
Nothing To Prove means the most to me. It's about coming to the end of my own rope. For me there was a couple years where I was absolutely dejected. It's where I came to really know God and sit with him and feel that presence in the quiet down time. I've spent too much time in my life "Talking AT God".
My other favorite is "Got Ya Where You Want Me" a smirky little tune about living with the uncomfortability of not knowing the future and trusting God with the circumstances yer in.
BREATHEcast: What's next for Bryan Duncan? Can we expect another new album soon? And if so, what will it be? One of my dreams is for you to do a new recordings of some of your ballads from the past! Is that something you might consider doing?
I have no patience for revisiting my old songs. There are some great ones there.. but I did that already. In the time I have left on earth I would like to contribute new insights from where I am now. Life is so different from the early years and repeating the play list seems redundant. We're aiming at a new project at the end of this year but it'll take some time to do it. I'm wanting to something that doesn't sound so much like... ME. 8)
BREATHEcast: Could you tell our readers where they can purchase "Conversations" and find out more about you?
