'Insurgent' Release Date, Cast News: Producers Looking For Better Box Office Haul Than 'Divergent'

The sequel to last year's 'Divergent', 'Insurgent', is set to be released this year in March, according to reports. The trailer to Summit Entertainment's latest film has been officially released. As hoped for, the trailer showcases astounding action sequences while also revealing a number of plot lines.

An exclusive "featurette" from Yahoo! Movies entices the fans by gradually revealing a few plots, giving rise to varying theories on the movie. The clip features Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) who will star in the upcoming movie.

The sequel continues the story of Beatrice as she and the other three divergents try to stay alive from the clutches of Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Winslet. Ansel Elgort will be seen in the movie as Caleb, Tris' brother, and Zoe Kravitz will play Christina. Others continuing in the sequel are Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd, and Maggie Q.

Naomi Wats, the series newcomer, will join the cast of 'Insurgent' as the leader of a new faction dubbed "Factionless" and might eventually reveal being Four's mother.

'Insurgent' was written as a screenplay by Brian Duffield and Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman, and was directed by Robert Schwentke, who's accolades include, 'The Time Traveler's Wife', 'Red', 'R.I.P.D' and 'Flightplan'.

On that note, 'Insurgent' is set for release in March 2015. The movie is set to be released alongside 'The Gunman' by Pierre Morel and 'Danny Collins' starring Al Pacino, Annette Beaning and Jennifer Garner.

If its fate is to be judged by its predecessor, which made $54 million on opening, made $150 million domestically and eventually made $288 million worldwide, the movie should gross abundant sales. "'Divergent', grossed over $288 million worldwide", according to BoxOfficeMojo, "Distributor Summit is no doubt looking for a bigger haul as it attempts to grow the series into a full-blown franchise."
