In terms of the film's plot, Riley's life has been changed drastically as her father has moved the family from the Midwest to work on a start-up company in San Francisco. At the same time, moviegoers will note that Riley's mother, who's upbeat and hip, is the emotional center of the family.
In regards to the parents, "These guys are the pillars on both sides," says Docter, "They are pivotal parts, knowing how joyful this kid Riley used to be and the young woman she's changing into."
Evidently, the show will focus on the animated emotions of each character, as they are all in it together, but possess different outlooks on the new changes in their lives.
Doctor says, "We're intercutting to show what's going on inside each of their heads behind the scenes," adding, "What seems like a simple family dinner is actually fraught with all sorts of emotional angst and drama."
