'Infinite Crisis' News: Developers Announce Game will Shut Down on Aug. 14 [VIDEO]
In spite of being launched in March 2015, 'Infinite Crisis,' the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game loosely based on DC Comics, will cease to exist from Aug. 14. Making an announcement in this regard on the official website of the game, the developer team at Turbine has thanked all fans for their support during the brief lifespan of the game.
However, IB Times reports that 'Infinite Crisis' can still be played until August. In fact, it will be free to play. Meanwhile, Turbine has already offered to pay refunds to all who have purchased the starter pack or elite pack game. Fans who expect to get a refund will be required to visit the Steam support site.
Polygon reports that 'Infinite Crisis' was launched just two months back after remaining in beta for over a year. While Turbine has said that cancelling the game was an extremely difficult decision, the developer did not provide any official reason for its action.
'Infinite Crisis' presented a war that spread across the multiverse, where different versions of DC Comics superheros like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and others would combat their enemies in several team battles. The game enabled players to take on a wide selection of DC heroes for their team, counting alternating characters such as Vampire Batman and Red Son Superman.
Publishers Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment also released a digital-first comic series titled 'Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse' to serve as a companion piece with 'Infinity Crisis,' which was written by 'Guardians of the Galaxy' writer Dan Abnett. In fact, 'Infinity Crisis' is among the several video game tie-in comics released by DC, including 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' and the forthcoming 'Batman: Arkham Knight.' As of now, DC has not revealed the fate of the comic series.
According to the report, in 2005, Geoff Johns, who wrote 'Green Lantern' and 'Justice League,' also wrote the original DC Comics maxi-series 'Infinite Crisis.' The game is inspired by this maxi-series and also took its title and concept from it. While the comic did not feature a single war on the scale that was seen in the game, it did present the multiverse in an outstanding manner and also included beautiful art by veteran comic artists Phil Jimenez, George Perez, Ivan Reis and Jerry Ordway.
