Indiana Pacers NBA 2015 News: Pacers Forward Chris Copeland Stabbed Outside of Nightclub

Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed shortly after leaving a trendy New York 10AK nightclub in the wee hours of Wednesday, CNN reports. While unrelated to the stabbing incident, two Atlanta Hawks players"”Thabo Sefolosha, and Pero Antic were taken in on obstruction and other charges.

New York Police Det. Kelly Ort clarified that the stabbing, which was initially reported to occur at 10AK, happened in front of the Fulton Houses project down the street.

"10AK staff was unaware of the incident when it happened, as it occurred beyond their view in a different location. However, 10AK's team assisted Mr. Copeland to their fullest abilities, and called for help as soon as he was seen walking back towards the venue," the police statement said.

According to the 10AK spokesperson, word of the stabbing quickly spread through the club, which prompted Sefolosha and Antic to check on their NBA brethren. The two Hawks players, who had just finished a game hours earlier, pushed through the crowd that gathered around the scene, which eventually lead to their arrests.

"We will contest these charges and look forward to communicating the facts of the situation at the appropriate time. We apologize to our respective families, teammates, and the Hawks organization for any negative attention this incident has brought upon them," said the joint statement released by Sefolosha and Antic.

The Pacers, for their part, released a statement saying Copeland suffered a knife wound to his left elbow and abdomen, also saying that the player is in stable condition at a New York hospital, who is with a female companion, identified as Katrine Saltara.

During the scuffle with the police, Sefolosha reportedly suffered a broken ankle that will end his season. Citing sources, RealGM reports that the defensive specialist sustained a fractured tibia in his leg.

The Hawks hold the top seed in the Eastern Conference as the layoffs approach, but the loss of Sefolosha promises to be a big blow to the teams playoff aspirations, especially on the defensive end.
